LJ and MySpace X-Posting Plugins

March 13, 2008

I am testing the MySpace Crossposter Plugin the LiveJournal Crossposter Plugin for WordPress. My Current WP Version is 2.3.3 and the plugins are both the latest versions.

Test results:

I managed to get the LiveJournal plugin to work just fine.  I am still having issues with the MySpace plugin.  I have contact the creator and asked for support.  I believe it is an issue with how I setting up the options and how they are named in by yahoo hosting.  If anyone else can get this to work I would be extremely grateful for a heads up.

Morning News Round Up! 3-07-08

March 7, 2008

Terrorism is in the news again today. Yesterday it was a bicycle riding bomber hitting Times Square early in the morning. This is a clear sign of terrorism in my book, the bomb like two others before it weren’t powerful enough to do any sort of real damage, nor were they placed at times when the there were likely to kill people. These explosions were meant to scare, the very definition of terrorism.

Potential terrorism makes its way into the headlines again too, as US military commanders warn al-Qaida may be targeting big US targets to meet recruiting goals and and maintain their street cred. While it would have been nice to get some warning on 9/11 I think we overdo it sometimes with all the reporting. I barely here it anymore. On the other hand I am not sure why al-Qaida feel the need to hit big targets. There goal has always been to instill fear and chaos, but there are much easier ways to scare lots of people than hitting big heavily defended targets. Frankly, I think far more people would be scared and for a longer period of time with far more chaos if they would hit a series of small town targets. Think of what would happen if a dirty bomb went off at your kids grade school spring performance, a biological agent released at a mega-church in the burbs, or a vest bomb filled with shrapnel let loose at a crowded high school dance. These are the kinds of things that scare me.

The UNC Student Body President was found shot to death in the street. Police believe it to be just another random act of senseless violence. If this is random violence, why is it news worthy? In the wake of other school shootings it should be noted, but why is it worth mention in a Yahoo Insider headline? The reason it is big news is she was a pretty blond white girl. While I don’t deny my own attraction to pretty blond white girls, it in no way makes me forget or deem the murders of non-whites as less important. Every time you see this story in the coming days take a moment and think about these statistics. Black and Hispanic women are more likely to be murdered than white women, Asian women are most likely to be the victims of domestic violence, and Native American women who are raped on a reservation by a non-indian almost never have their attack investigated. When you see the picture of pretty blond Eve Carson, take just one moment and think about all the women who are raped, murdered and abused that don’t look like her.

On a side note to this there is a good post from Holly on her blog, Menstrual Poetry, about unreported crimes against women.

Increase Your Blog Traffic and Technorati Authority

March 5, 2008

Turning of the No Follow part of your WordPress Blog and posting to the list of sites who similarly have the no follow turned off appears to be the fastest way to get your blog popular with the right people. As a test I am using my more personal fun filled blog, The Other Blog, as a test site. As of this writing on March 3, 2008 I have a 0 Google Page Rank, and 0 Technorati authority. I will have posted using that site as a link in roughly 30 to 35 posts tonight.

36 hours after this test began I have a Technorati authority of 4 on The Other Blog. My own traffic is up even if the number of comments is still down. I have made less than 50 total posts on Do Follow Blogs and those few hours over that short of a time period is well worth it. I will continue build this up for a week and get back to y’all on how well it is working.

My next project will be to increase the blogsGoogle page rank while I increase the authority of both The Other Blog and Tiny World.

I will seriously slow down my posting to random blogs with the nofollow removed and just try and keep up with the dozen or so I really like. I as a blogger who doesn’t like spam anymore than the other guys I will say if you are trying to build your rating, at the very least read the post and respond with something relevant, so as not to spoil other peoples good will towards us.
I am posting my own list of Do Follow blogs at the You Comment - I Follow page

WordPress 2.3.3 on Yahoo Networks

March 3, 2008

For some time I have been trying to figure out how to successfully upgrade my Yahoo based blog from Word Press 2.0.2.  After several attempts and a decision to transfer the domain I stumbled upon the upgrade method by chance.  Here are the steps.

  1. First download your entire blog directory using and FTP client.  I like WS-FTP except you have to pay for it.  FileZilla, the best freebie is almost as powerful as WS-FTP, but it is free and much simpler to use unless you wish to have multiple FTP sessions going at once.
  2. Once downloaded delete everything in the blog directory on your domain.  Do not delete the blog directory itself.
  3. While deleting which may take a while if your blog was big, download and extract the latest copy of WordPress.
  4. Once the deletion is over reset your blog update controls on the blog manager page to manual.
  5. FTP everything in the WordPress directory to your blog directory
  6. Upload your old blogs wp-config.php back to your blog directory.
  7. Load your blog page and it will automatically take you through the rest of the upgrade process.
  8. Happy blogging with all the new features and all your old posts.

Moving To Wordpress

September 14, 2007

I gave up on a MovableType today and decided I much preferred WordPress . it wasn’t that MT was a bad blogging tool, I simply don’t have the time to learn all I need to know in order to control it the way I want. I am still going to be going through a great number of changes to the blog’s look and feel over the next few days and invite comments on anything and everything. I am going to sit back load up my Nirvana playlist and pretend I still have my white Vinyl copy of Bleach! Long Live Kurt! (just try and imagine my bic up in the air)
