Yes, you heard it here first Barack Obama wins the presidency. That is the news I want to be reporting. With any luck it will happen, but I won’t be at home to report it. Katy would very much like this baby out of her, she has been saying this for three days now though and keeps getting more and more demanding in her speech to her belly. Frankly I have things already planned for tomorrow so I would like it done too.

That said if Barack Obama wins the Election tonight I will be a very happy man and relieved that things will start to look up for me. On the off hand that he doesn’t I am even more concerned things will go badly for everyone without a silver spoon in their mouth already. John McCain is an angry old man who doesn’t take advice well, especially when it comes to dealing with people he sees himself as better than. I have a hard time believing that the middle class, much less us poor folks who are barely making it are going to be better off. I worry that to hold on to his power he will go even further than W has to appease the far right. Unlike his running mate I don’t think he actually believes most of the conservative christian rhetoric that comes out of his campaign, he just feels he can live with it since it gets him what he wants.

Then there is his running mate. I have my serious doubts about John McCain being able to finish a term in office. The idea of Sarah Palin the most sociopathic, unethical, self-serving, deluded, arrogant hypocrite I have ever seen run for office in my thirty four years become president scares the shit out of me. it isn’t just the fact she believes she is on a mission from God (and not one of the Blues Brothers) and that we will be back to backroom coat hanger abortions (and when those fail a sharpened bicycle spoke), it is the fact she is honestly ignorant of the world around. She seems to suffer terribly from delusions of grandeur and compensates for her low self-esteem by acting out however pleases her (she needs more than a big hug to fix her problems). She also doesn’t seem to grasp that what George W Bush did in trampling the constitution was wrong and I fear she will even take it a few steps further. This is a politician who would frighten Machiavelli’s Prince.

No matter how we voted today, we are all Americans, and who ever wins will be our next president. No amount of whining and crying is going to change it. With that said how are you going to feel tomorrow if it is the Other Guy who wins tonight? I would love to hear your story.

As the most important election of most American’s lifetime begins, we have all but forgot the other important issue going on today. Today the Supreme Court of the Unites States (SCotUS) begins hearing arguments on whether or not the FCC can make arbitrary and questionable ruling whenever it feels the need to appease some political entity. That may sound harsh but those are the facts currently in question.

Bono is lead singer for the Irish rock band U2 as well a respected activist and philanthropist.

The history of rulings going back to the Supreme Court’s decision on the seven dirty words you can’t say on television. Between that ruling and 2002, the rule of thumb was you couldn’t punish a broadcaster for the sudden unexpected expletive uttered in the heat of the moment, only the repeated use that was meant to shock viewers. Then came 2002 when Bono of U2 fame got excited about being nominated for an award and said “Fuck”.

The Parent’s Television Council (PTC), our holier than thou television watchdogs, decided Bono’s utterance was simply too much for the ears of Americans who should never “Fuck” much less say it, especially on TV. They and through their neocon network urged and incited good church going Christians to file complaints with the FCC demanding they change their rules. In essence the PTC simply wanted to fuck with the people who allowed that foreigner to say “fuck” on TV.

Broadcasters are fighting back. The rules the FCC adopted are flexible and arbitrary and seem to be politically motivated. They want to know why five unelected bureaucrats get to not only make the rules but change them on a whim. They fought back an won in federal court once. Of course the Bush administration didn’t like that so here we are in the Surpreme Court fighting for freedom of speech on election day. (It is a wonder the Bush administration didn’t simply call the broadcaster terrorists and make them disappear.)

George Carlin is famous for the comedy routine Seven Dirty Words That You Can't Say on Television.

What is at stake here isn’t merely the right to say Fuck on TV or any place else which could be the end result of this case. Cable broadcasters no matter if they are ad supported basic channels or the full service pay out the ass for premium channels could end up in a position of being fined for profanity any profanity on any show no matter how much you pay to hear someone on that show say “fuck”.

I know many of you are saying, “Why should I care, I don’t watch TV and I don’t say fuck.” You should care because if the government wins here, they have been given a free hand to start censoring what is available to you. No matter if you watch TV, say fuck, or are appaled by those who do, you do not want five politically minded bureaucrats deciding what sort of information you can and cannot hear, purchase, or be exposed to as an adult simply because someone else claims offense.

On a side note about the Seven Dirty Words, I have just found out the George Carlin’s daughter will be doing an oral history book about her father’s legacy. In my opinion his words on the current FCC rules would be “Fuck the the fucking fuckers!”

It’s been suggested several times in the media that Palin, the so-called “average-joe American” who is a self-proclaimed middle class citizen, tends to have loose pockets. Wearing $50,000 dresses, spending over $150,000 on attire and make up for herself and her children over the last three months and most recently brought to light, spending over $20,000 on travel and hotel expenses for her three daughters, citing that they were with her on un-founded “state business”.

We can all brush these issues aside and say that this should not be the focus of the election…but since when is someone’s integrity not an issue for possible presidency?

-from: Are Palin’s Spending Habits Relevant? // General Discussion // BlogCatalog

The question is are these legitimate issues? Of course they are. These are people who want to have the highest offices in the land, everything about these people are legitimate issues. Their spending habits, personal family choices, and favorite foods are all as relevant as their stance on abortion, the economy, evolution and foreign policy.

These extraneous issues are even more important for Sarah Palin than possibly any other candidate in our history. She claims to be the quintessential middle class All-American mom. This would be a non-issue except she uses it as a qualification as to why she is qualified to speak for Joe the Plumber and his family. Of course the more we look at what she does and what she claims her credibility keeps slipping further and further away.

How many All-American middle class mothers do you know who have a staff of nannies? The last time Sarah Palin only had one nanny on her payroll was when she only had one child. She currently has 4 nannies and a private nurse for baby Trig. Why is this relevant? She tells us she knows what it is to be a mother. I am sorry, squeezing a kid out of you and then handing it off to someone else to do all the work doesn’t make you a parent. She probably loves her children, but so parents who molest their children most of the time, so that isn’t a good test either. Providing Trig with a private nurse and listening to her claim to know our pain while backing McCain’s health care plan is a joke.

Sarah Palin might show up a hockey games, take her kids out all dolled up for photo opportunities, and talk about being a middle class bake cookies with your girls kind of mom, but the facts say she is either delusional or a fraud. My guess is she is a delusional fraud, but either way when you look at all of the facts she is unfit to be the vice president, much less the president.

As you may or may not know this week the Connecticut State Supreme Court ruled that gays can marry there too.

Pink Sheep of the Family: The Sanctity of Marriage
The court found that the institution of marriage is special and sacred. Therefore, the very reasons why anti-gay marriage proponents want to deny same-sex couples the right to use the word “marriage” are the exact reasons why same-sex couples must not be denied the right to use the word. “Civil union” doesn’t hold the same power. The court therefore found that the state had been labeling gays and lesbians as separate and unequal second-class citizens.

This is another step in the wrong direction, but not for the reasons most people are now thinking. The problem lies not with letting gays marry, but rather with the state getting more and more involved with what is a religious institution. Both the federal and state governments need to disentangle themselves from such messes not continue to be the gay lovers of religion. They walk around with their hands in each others back pockets fondling their wallets and then try and pretend they aren’t enjoying it.

If people want to get married that is fine I am, and I am all for anyone who wants to get hitched. I also support the right of any minister or other clergy member who wants to refuse to provide a service for gays or anyone else. They are practicing their religion and the government has no business telling them what they should believe or who they should perform services for. On the other hand the government needs to get out of the marriage business all together. They need to mandate a nation domestic partnership rule that allows any two adults to file as spouses regardless of sex, color, creed, race, etc, etc, and as such claim spousal benefits through any plan available to them. The hitch is the contract also has to require the equivalent of a prenup that deals with everything from the division of property, handling of children, and finances.

If you want to protect your right to love the one you want, love the one you are with, swing in style, covet your neighbor’s wife and his ass then you need to get the government out of your marriage and out your bed.

Wake up America! I am not telling you this because it is early on a Sunday morning and god wants you at his church service. God be damned and damned be those who only vote the religion card too. It is time that you started voting with your brain instead of your but this and your but that.

Op-Ed Columnist - The Mask Slips - NYTimes.com
The lesson for Americans suffused with anxiety and dread over the crackup of the financial markets is that the way you vote matters, that there are real-world consequences when you go into a voting booth and cast that ballot.

For the nitwits who vote for the man or woman they’d most like to have over for dinner, or hang out at a barbecue with, I suggest you take a look at how well your 401(k) is doing, or how easy it will be to meet the mortgage this month, or whether the college fund you’ve been trying to build for your kids is as robust as you’d like it to be.

Despite the republicans calls to vote against elitists the republican leadership is among the most elitist group the world has ever known. Granted they are just the rich old white boy club that is so out of touch with reality they even buy their own line of fashionable bullshit, but hey that still doesn’t mean they aren’t elitists. These people don’t want you to think, because they honestly don’t believe you are capable of making the kind of choices that would support their good old boy network. They tell you don’t vote for those intellectual elites because they are thinkers.

Frankly it is about time we started putting people who think about things in charge rather than people who just pander and play on the heartstrings of those who aren’t as intellectual. I don’t want just smart people in charge, there are plenty of smart republicans, I want thinkers in charge. i want the kind of people who think about the consequences of their actions, and not just the immediate consequences but the ones months, years, elections, and generations down the road.

If you doubt the soundness of voting for thinkers, look where voting for an emotional weeny like George W Bush got you. You have our flashy war with Iraq spending millions of dollars an hour. The less glamorous war in Afghanistan, the garden state of terrorists and extremism, is underfunded, understaffed, and ignored as much as possible. It is time we put someone in charge who will think about the consequences of choosing glamor over substance.

Jamie Lynn Spears Pregnant Again, reads the headlines. Well this is truly a no brainer. No matter what sort of moral values about sex you wish to teach your children at home, this just proves the point of why we can’t fail to teach real real comprehensive sex education courses in public schools with all the information rather than conservative disinformation. I know she isn’t a product of the public education system, but there are so many more uninformed girls just like her in that system.

Jamie Lynn Spears Pregnant Again. Is at least the headline. In the story it is claimed she didn’t think you could get pregnant again while breast feeding. I don’t credit the National Enquirer with being right on this and it doesn’t actually matter if the story is true or not, like her representatives tell OK magazine.

Jamie Lynn Spears “Is Not Pregnant” - E! Online
In response to a story in today’s National Enquirer claiming Britney’s sister is again with child, a rep for the 17-year-old confirmed to OK! magazine that “she is not pregnant.”

What’s more, a source who lives in Jamie Lynn’s native Kentwood, La., tells E! News: “I talk to [her mom] Lynne all the time. Believe me, she would have mentioned if that little girl is expecting again. That’s just a bunch of made-up crap.”

Like I said this is a case where the actual story or the truth matters very little. This is about the thousands of teenage girls a week who are finding themselves in the same exact position. The next time you hear one of your conservative friends spread the lies that Barack Obama wanted to teach kindergartners comprehensive sex ed, ask them why that is a bad idea. Ask them if the public they don’t want to spend money on supporting is better served by teaching the truth about how to not get knocked up or if it is better served by hundreds of unwed teenage girls giving birth and never finishing school every year?

Sarah Palin is once again on the flip side of the a John McCain argument. Ever since it became clear Barack Obama would be the Democratic candidate John McCain has taken great pride in citing inexperience in everything for the reasons Barack Obama shouldn’t be elected President. Someone has forgotten to mention this argument to Sarah Palin.

CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive - Palin says she’s the ‘new energy’ « - Blogs from CNN.com

“He’s got a tremendous amount of experience and, you know, I’m the new energy, the new face, the new ideas and he’s got the experience based on many, many years in the Senate and voters are gonna have a choice there of what it is that they want in these next four years,” she said.

If you buy the McCain argument that experience counts for everything, I can’t understand why you would want to vote for him. He is old and obviously suffering from senility based on how often he can’t remember his previous answers to questions. For me that is a scarier situation than down right lying. We expect that out of most politicians to stretch the truth, at least to some degree, simply because they are politicians. If we are going to look at experience then we must take into account we have with seventy two year old men who won’t reveal anything about their health, we just have to assume it is not very good or he would be bragging about it.

An angry old forgetful man becoming President with a dopey sounding sidekick with a religious bent as his VP isn’t something we should take lightly. We must assume John McCain is senile, or a liar, either way the chances of him finishing a term in office is pretty slim. America is sick of being lied to and the first time McCain does it as president there will no doubt be calls for impeachment. If he is just senile, we can’t simply say “Whatever Grandpa,” and look the other way either. John McCain isn’t likely to finish a single term in office, so we must assume that Sarah Palin based on her own experience is the sole candidate running against two experienced senators.

In the end, Sarah Palin might be the new energy of the republican party. Even if the first law of thermodynamics says you can’t create or destroy energy, any kid who has ever played with fireworks knows pretty soon energy unleashed becomes little more than a bang and flash that is soon forgotten, unless it costs you your fingers or eyesight in the process.

In the Daily Local New economic news from CNN we find stocks off sharply against the US Senate’s vote on a bailout package. For the first time since I can remember the price of oil has dropped below a hundred dollars a barrel but I have seen no evidence of this drop at the pumps locally. The credit market is still crunched, no big surprise since jobless claims are up again this week. Many investors are actually betting against the US government’s ability to fix the economy, but that certainly is a risky proposition at the moment. The dollar might have gained ground yesterday, with the stocks regaining part of the previous days record loss, but who knows where it will end the day today. To sum it all up you rarely win, but sometimes you do, or in other words you have to know when to hold them, when to fold them, when to walk away and when to run.

With the failure of our economy we are all making cutbacks. There are some things we can’t live without. For me that would be the internet. It is my lifeline to the outside world, I have dumped my local phone service in favor of a prepaid cell since we don’t yack on the phone. While many of my relatives think the internet is something we don’t need, I find myself forced to disagree with that notion. My twenty five dollars a month cuts down on my gas use by probably twice that much. Katy can do ninety-nine percent of her job hunting from home rather than going place to place. They same could be done from the library except there is a limited usage time, long waits, and their old browsers seldom meets the needs of many application sites, not to mention we would be driving there every day to check emails on jobs applied for, and the average time spent job surfing and responding easily takes up more than the the two hours alloted to a person in a day. The money spent on gas going there might not equal the full twenty five I pay for internet a month, but there is a lot said for time spent doing it and convenience. You can apply for jobs online at four in the morning or on Sundays but not from the library. They also frown on me bringing a cup of coffee with you.

Just the job searches alone makes it worth while to us, but it is more than just that. We don’t have cable, and the TV and Radio reception because of trees and terrain are horrid at the best of times. The internet is our cheap form of entertainment. Aside from those two factors I usually have to explain to the family that I actually earn money from it, in fact I make more than I spend, which means a lot.

So what is your personal vice? What aren’t you going to be able to do without in these dark and foreboding economic times?

If it was I am sure her faith in the powers that be would prove the election unnecessary. This debate is about evolution verses creation though.

Surprisingly enough John McCain has been choosing the side of evolution when it comes to his politics. He goes along in his own little world unaware that anything is actually broken and needs fixed. The system will evolve at its own pace and take care of the richest. The weakest, meaning the poorest, will get screwed, simply because they don’t matter to him or his process of governing.

On the side of creationism is Barack Obama. He takes as firm a stand as any creationist that we need change and it is to be started by the guy in charge. Like the biblical God he wishes to smite down the unworthy, take his people out from under the thumb of foreign powers, and empower the lowest of us to be our own messiah.

When you go to the polls, you need to ask yourself if you can survive this economy moving along letting the world sort itself out, or do you need someone who can in with the seeds of change already planted.
