We are the voices that used to stand around office water coolers and the break rooms debating anything and everything topical for the day. Not only have we shed the old workplace or as often the case shed by our old workplace we have become our own media outlet complete with advertisers.

Poor Touch Screen Layout Designed To Favor Republicans

Once again Americans are being duped. In West Virgina a Republican stronghold that is leaning ever closer to Barack Obama they are now having problems with the voting machines switching a vote from one candidate to another. Not surprising it consistently gives the votes to Republicans in places where they are needed the most. So is this some nefarious plot of a neocon racist christian hacker appalled at the idea of a black president? Nope this is far easier to spot.
The culprit here is bright and as the election official it is simply someone one button when they think they are pushing another. This happens all the time to every ordinary people who touch anything. It is the reason people soME TIMES TYPE with the freaking caps on and not even know it. Unlike the caps lock key which is designed so you can get to it quickly while touch typing, these touch screens are design to take advantage of the situation.
Any good touch screen designer knows two things. First if you want the selections to be accurate they need to have sufficient space between them. Secondly if you want to skew the results it is easy to design an interface to design the screen to take advantage of the situation. The designers of the West Virginia system no doubt no both of these things, or they should. If they don’t the company that designed the interface need to fire their designers.
This design might not be nefarious in nature, but it sorely fails in the perception of impropriety test!

Alright let’s talk about the VP candidates. This is a person who the president trusts to go out and talk to world leaders on our behalf. Who would you rather have facing down the likes of Ali Khamenei, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Jalal Talabani, Kim Il-sung, Hu Jintao, Asif Ali Zardari, Hamid Karzai, Dmitry Medvedev or Vladimir Putin.

once again on the campaign trail we continue to hear McCain and Palin both talk to Joe Six pack and all those hockey moms how they are going to clean up the world and keep their children safe from H-O-M-O-SEX-uals. There only standing on this issue is their Biblical faith, which Sarah Palin likes to pridefully boast she has more of than anyone ever, because she can she atheist Russia from her backdoor.
Let us examine this biblical passage she holds near and dear to her. From Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13

Alright let us just assume she really believes her bible so it is her duty to make sure the law reflects America’s Christian values. In a shocking, but true story this time another campaign worker is assaulted. Of course after calls by Republicans for Obama to denounce the faked attack in Pennsylvania. Where is their voice now? Why aren’t they screaming and hollering for their own leadership to denounce the beating of one of Barack Obama’s campaign worker? Do they not care or are republicans just racists in general who thought they could score political points with whites with their other story? Where is Sarah Palin’s call to this girl to say, “We might not be of the same party and you might be working against me, but this sort of attack on people trying to show their patriotism is unconscionable and disturbing. I am sorry it happened to you.”

Nancy Takehara tells WISN-TV she drove from Chicago to help canvass a neighborhood in Caledonia Saturday on behalf of the Democratic presidential nominee.
Ronald Goetsch says he had a heated verbal exchange with Takehara over allegations of voter improprieties in other states and the role of voter registration groups and asked her numerous times to leave his property.
Takehara says Goetsch grabbed her by the back of the neck and was pounding her head and screaming.

It now appears Sarah Palin is either completely stupid or has some real maverick street cred. I bet you never saw this one coming Johny.
With 10 days to go until election day, long brewing tension between Sarah Palin and key aides to John McCain has become so intense, it is spilling out into the public.
Several McCain advisers have suggested to CNN they have become increasingly frustrated with what one aide described as Palin “going rogue” recently, while a Palin associate says she is simply trying to “bust free” of what she believes was a mishandled roll-out that damaged her.
McCain sources point to several incidents where Palin has gone off message, and privately wonder if they were deliberate. For example: labeling robo calls “irritating,” even as the campaign was defending the use of them and telling reporters she disagreed with the campaigns controversial decision to pull out of Michigan.
Having recently finished Christopher Moore’s delightful The Stupidest Angel, I get the feeling the McCain camp should have read the book or at least got it on CD. There is a message in this little tale of Christmas terror, called being careful what you ask for. They said they wanted a maverick and apparently they got themselves one, albeit a stupid one. However when you aren’t specific you have to pay for what you order.
(I really wanted to give someone credit for a review on The Stupidest Angel, but the only blogs worth linking to said it was a book more for the bitter middle aged crowd and not an optimistic twenty something. While my wife and I might be a little bitter at 34 and 32 his middle age comment could earn him an ass whooping)

The Only Ashley Todd Story I Will Publish

I am only going to publish one post on the whole Ashley Todd story. For those that don’t already know the Ashley Todd story here it is in in short:

A campaign worker who claimed she was the victim of a politically-motivated attack in which she was beaten, kicked and cut, now admits that she made the whole story up. According to a Pittsburgh police spokeswoman, Ashley Todd, 20, told investigators she “was not robbed and there was no 6′4″ black male attacker.” Police say Todd also “indicated that she has prior mental problems.”
What I want to say about this is twofold first will be this woman even if she is judged sane as can be suffers from one of the worst sorts of mental problems racism. It isn’t uncommon among those with many mental disorders, they are afraid of people
in general and especially people who are different from them. I am not excusing racism, nor justifying the actions of anyone, far from it. What I want to bring up when I talk about mental disorders in relationship to Ashley Todd is the fact John McCain wants to reduce and eliminate coverage and eligibility for those with mental disabilities. From my point of view crazy or not she is obviously suffering from sevral psychological problems other than being a racist. John McCain by his desire to keep people like Ashley Todd from getting the help they need endorses them walking around untreated pulling the same kind of delusional crap.
The second thing I want to point out in the only Ashley Todd story I am going to post is just how quick the McCain Campaign people are to capitalize on the racist nature of the story. They purposely went out of their way to not only try and frighten white people but to stir up the racist crowds they have been courting all along.
McCain Communications Director Gave Reporters Incendiary Version Of “Carved B” Story Before Facts Were Known

John Verrilli, the news director for KDKA in Pittsburgh, told TPM Election Central that McCain’s Pennsylvania campaign communications director gave one of his reporters a detailed version of the attack that included a claim that the alleged attacker said, “You’re with the McCain campaign? I’m going to teach you a lesson.”
Verrilli also told TPM that the McCain spokesperson had claimed that the “B” stood for Barack. According to Verrilli, the spokesperson also told KDKA that Sarah Palin had called the victim of the alleged attack, who has since admitted the story was a hoax.
I am rather surprised in their rush to judgment they didn’t announce the reason they are losing in so many polls was because big scary niggers who worship Allah keep honest white Christians from saying they will vote for McCain and Palin Grandpa Forgetful and Sarah the Savior over the phone.

For those of us following the election, it’s become clear McCain’s final strand of hope over the last couple of weeks has been calling Obama a socialist. This tiny, tenuous foothold was given to him by Obama when he said the phrase, “spread the wealth” when talking to the now famous Joe the Plumber.
That’s it. That’s what McCain has at this point. And he’s been trying to ride it all the way to election day.
And it’s also why the following quote, if effectively communicated, equates to the end of McCain’s campaign. Quite simply, McCain was asked at a townhall meeting if it was fair for the rich to pay more in taxes. Here’s was his answer:
When you reach a certain level of comfort, there’s nothing wrong with paying somewhat more.
Outlandish propaganda, right?. Nope. Here’s the video:
He follows it up by saying it shouldn’t be an outrageous difference (it shouldn’t be totally out of proportion), but that’s consistent with Obama’s plan, so he gets absolutely no points there. The bottom line is that the woman accused the concept of a progressive tax policy of being socialist, and John McCain openly refuted it–on video. He essentially made, while being recorded, the exact argument of the Obama campaign.
Oh, and remember when he said he’s never flip-flopped on an issue? Well, this is just about as blatant as it gets. Pass this along so we can expose McCain for the flip-flopping career politician he really is. If enough people see this it will cut the final thread of deception-based hope their campaign has.

John McCain has made the distant connections from years ago between Barack Obama and “unrepentant terrorist” Bill Ayers a centerpiece of the McCain-Palin campaign.
But McCain has much closer, more direct, and more recent connections to terrorists who committed acts far worse than Ayers, yet McCain’s links to “unrepentant terrorists” are completely ignored by the media. And although Obama has forcefully condemned the past actions of Ayers, John McCain has never denounced his terrorist friends.
In the 1980s, McCain personally funded a guerrilla group (the Contras) that engaged in terrorist acts. Just last year, McCain expressed how “proud” he was of an ex-felon who urged shooting law enforcement agents in the head (G. Gordon Liddy). And earlier this year, the McCain campaign trumpeted the endorsement of a man who illegally provided weapons and money to terrorists; when a reporter questioned this, the McCain campaign refused to even criticize this criminal (Oliver North).
In February 1988, the Washington Post reported that McCain personally (and relatively “recently”) gave the Contras $400.

Rosa had her breasts cut off. Then they cut into her chest and took out her heart. The men had their arms broken and their testicles cut off and their eyes poked out. They were then killed by slitting their throats and pulling the tongue out through the slit.
A congressional committee confirmed at the time that the Contras “raped, tortured and killed unarmed civilians, including children” and that “groups of civilians, including pregnant women and children were burned, dismembered, blinded and beheaded.”
Oh I know you are going to tell me the Contra were anti-communist so we sometimes have to sacrifice our principles on one subject to prevent a greater evil. Well Okay I might actually buy that one if I were drunk or stoned or stupid. What I can’t fathom is how John McCain Lying Johny can keep bringing up the Ayers association when for the record we have his respect and friendship with convicted felon G. Gordan Liddy on the public record.
McCain’s connections to G. Gordon Liddy are even closer and more disturbing. Liddy, of course, is famous as an ex-felon convicted for his role as a mastermind in the Watergate break-ins and cover-up. Less well known is the fact that Liddy proposed to kidnap anti-war activists in 1972 and even plotted the murder of a newspaper columnist deemed unfriendly.
If his criminal activity helped bring down a president weren’t bad enough, Liddy actually advocated terrorist acts, too. In 1994, Liddy advised listeners to his radio show to kill federal law enforcement agents: “Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they’re going to be wearing bulletproof vests. … Kill the sons of bitches.”
Despite this public advocacy of terrorism, McCain appeared at Liddy’s home for a fundraiser Liddy organized for him in 1998. Liddy has given McCain $5,000 during his various campaigns, including $1,000 in 2007. McCain has never refused the money. Less than a year ago, McCain appeared on Liddy’s radio show (where Liddy greeted him as an “old friend”) and McCain told Liddy, “I’m proud of you, I’m proud of your family. It’s always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great.”

Who was the highest paid individual in Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign during the first half of October as it headed down the homestretch?
Not Randy Scheunemann, Mr. McCain’s chief foreign policy adviser; not Nicolle Wallace, his senior communications staffer. It was Amy Strozzi, Gov. Sarah Palin’s traveling makeup artist, according to a new filing with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday night.
Ms. Strozzi, who was nominated for an Emmy award for her makeup work on the television show “So You Think You Can Dance?”, was paid $22,800 for the first two weeks of October alone, according to the records. The campaign categorized Ms. Strozzi’s payment as “Personnel Svc/Equipment.”
In addition, Angela Lew, who is Ms. Palin’s traveling hair stylist, got $10,000 for “Communications Consulting” in the first half of October. Ms. Lew’s address listed in F.E.C. records traces to an Angela M. Lew in Thousands Oaks, Calif., which matches with a license issued by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. The board said Ms. Lew works at a salon called Hair Grove in Westlake Village, Calif.
W Magazine’s blog reported earlier this month that “the Guv has been traveling with a hairstylist named Angela, who usually works out of a salon called the Hair Grove,” and that she was directed to the salon by none other than Cindy McCain, whose own hair stylist, Piper, works at the Hair Grove as well.
The campaign’s payment on Oct. 10 to Ms. Strozzi made her the single highest-paid individual in the campaign for that two week period. (There were more than two-dozen companies that got larger payments than Ms. Strozzi). She easily beat out Mr. Scheunemann, who received $12,500 in the first half of October, and Ms. Wallace, who got $12,000. Ms. Lew was the fourth highest paid person in the campaign during that span.
Yes, I know you have to look good for the camera in today’s media conscious world, and with Hi-Def TV you have to look even better than perfect, but do you really need to pay a makeup artist $45,000 dollars a month and a hair dresser $20,000 a month? I know plenty of people in those occupations who don’t make that in a year. So much for being like Joe the Plumber and all those other people she claims to know on a passive level. For those of you who need those salaries dealt out in numbers you can fathom Amy Strozzi made $1628.57 a day and Angela Lew the hair stylist made $714.29 a day rounded up to the nearest penny. This doesn’t count the hotel expenses or the food provided for them. I don’t know about you but I am just not buying the I’m a common middle class mom routine when her stylist makes more in a day than most middle class moms make in a week and her make-up artist makes more in a day than a lot of single working mom’s make in a month.

We’re learning more about what it’s like to be Joe the Plumber everyday: A new study by Joel Slemrod of the University of Michigan and Andrew Johns of the Internal Revenue Service finds that misreporting of income and tax liabilities is highest among the rich.
Ask any of us poor slobs who lies most about money and we will tell you it sure isn’t us. Why isn’t it the poor who lie, because we have nothing to gain by lying about our income. Saying we make more than we do gains us nothing and under reporting often times means we will get even less money back at tax time.
Car Shopping In This Economy

I really can’t believe I went car shopping today, not with everything else going on in my financial life. On the other hand it is sort of a must with the baby due in another seventeen days. I know what I want and what i can afford, which isn’t much, but that didn’t stop me from getting pushed into a new Honda Element. I know I can’t afford it, but I wonder if they would let me borrow one when it comes time to take the baby to the doctors and stuff. The truck with its next to nothing heat and room for three people maximum just won’t cut it for long this winter. I went looking for the ninety two Chevy Cavalier but couldn’t help getting in the Honda Element as they pushed and prodded.
I said no thank you before the drive, then again after the drive, and then again when they tried to get me to fill out a credit app. No! No! No! What I wanted to say though was Yes! Yes! Yes!. Not since I had my Aztek have I looked at a car that had styling personality. Too many models look the same and if it wasn’t for a name slapped on the back of them I wouldn’t be able to tell you who made what. That is not the case the Element ,that squared back end is unique. I came home and googled Honda Element reviews and fell more in love with it. I want one! I want one bad! Maybe not as bad as I want a new Porsche, but considering the bump at the end of my driveway and I will have to share it with my wife and take both the kids places, I am sure I will be a lot happier for the Element.

Where The Hell Have You Been

“Where the hell have you been and what took you so long?”
Anyone who has ever had a company car at their disposal and a pain in the ass boss has probably heard this. Having sat both sides of this situation I know as well as anyone else that employees tend to go extra places on the company dime. I also know that the pain in the ass boss who harasses them for such behavior is as likely to do it as the other employees are. Things are changing though.
With the demand for even tighter budget controls there are a lot of places that are turning to products like Fleet Tracking. I am more than a little disturbed by this in some respects. It is a sign that the company doesn’t trust you to keep your extra running around to even a bare minimum. From the employees point of view I know that having the company car and needing to pick up a few groceries makes me more productive. If I am already busting my balls by pulling ten hour days I want to know while I am out I can stop, grab my lunch, pick up a box of cereal for the kids, and a DVD I can watch with my wife after I go home and not have bust my chops for it much less get fired. A company that doesn’t trust me to be productive simply doesn’t deserve my loyalty.
Of course this brings up an even worse issue, employee employer trust. When I was a teenager I worked in fast food and the management didn’t trust any employee. They didn’t trust us and treated us like we were disposable, because in fact to them we were an easily used up commodity. This is why many of us who experienced this sort of treatment went into white collar work where we were supposed to be respected. The cycle however has begun anew with white collar workers being seen as just as disposable as a minimum wage high school kid working the fry station used to be. We didn’t go to college, and for most of us in large amounts of debt, to be told we are little more to our employer than an easily replaceable fry cook. Company car or not, if our employer can’t trust us to do what we need to do to be more productive, then what is the pointof ever striving to be more?

When I read the CEO of Wal-Mart the greatestadvocate of low cost crap for nearly forty year said that he wanted people to start consuming less, I had to go check my vitamins to make sure they weren’t really fun drugs. Then I started thinking about it a little harder and had to ask the big why question and frankly my answer didn’t mesh with his.

Near the end of Wal-Mart’s 2008 Sustainability Summit in Beijing, CEO Lee Scott addressed one of the greatest existential questions for the world’s biggest retailer as it pursues its sustainability goals: Can true sustainability be reached without lowering — lowering — consumption, especially with the increasing growth of China’s middle class?Scott paused for a moment, and then:
Do we change how we purchase, how we consume, how we live? The answer to that I think is that to get to true sustainability, that does occur.
Was the CEO of Wal-Mart suggesting that consumers alter their buying habits? Does he want people to come into Wal-Marts less frequently to pick up their sneakers and stereos and ice cream, their humidifiers? Just like, for instance, they’re doing right now in the US, to the company’s chagrin?
Basically, Wal-Mart wants to improve the quality of products so that people replace their old TV, for instance, every 10 years instead of every 5. By improving quality — and their sustainability cred — Wal-Mart figures, they’ll get more customers.
Here is the thing. I don’t believe Wal-Mart has any noble purposes what-so-ever. The way the company is run they have only been looking out for themselves for a good thirty years. So why in the midst of all of this would they be advocating people cut back? Could it be they want people to pay more for higher quality goods less often? That is not it at all. Wal-Mart is simply doing what it has always done and trying to get the last few people who haven’t been suckered by their slick marketing to believe in them and the Wal-Mart way. Using less sounds good and wonderful except if people did that not very many of Wally World’s competitors will survive. Guess who is pulling the same old stunt with a brand new slick ad campaign to sucker Wal-Mart’s biggest detractors?
Washington Puts Rush Job on Killing Endagered Species

In a rush job to get through all the comments and concerns people have over the endangered species act Department of the Interior Officials appointed only 15 people to review all of the text and gave them just thirty two hours to do it in. That isn’t four standard business days type of thirty two hours, that is a day and a third total. WASHINGTON – Rushing to ease endangered species rules before President Bush leaves office, Interior Department officials are attempting to review 200,000 comments from the public in just 32 hours, according to an e-mail obtained by The Associated Press.
The Fish and Wildlife Service has called a team of 15 people to Washington this week to pore through letters and online comments about a proposal to exclude greenhouse gases and the advice of federal biologists from decisions about whether dams, power plants and other federal projects could harm species. That would be the biggest change in endangered species rules since 1986.
The fact is all our resources are limited, including our wildlife. There is no need to rush through this in the waning days of a presidency. Not only is it irresponsible, it is possibly criminal. I would like to see a stop to this kind of political bullshit that can’t be done during the regular political season. I would like to propose a new executive powers amendment that would require any executive branch department decision made within the last one hundred and twenty days of an administration temporary unless signed off by the incoming administration within the same one hundred and twenty day period.

It’s been suggested several times in the media that Palin, the so-called “average-joe American” who is a self-proclaimed middle class citizen, tends to have loose pockets. Wearing $50,000 dresses, spending over $150,000 on attire and make up for herself and her children over the last three months and most recently brought to light, spending over $20,000 on travel and hotel expenses for her three daughters, citing that they were with her on un-founded “state business”.We can all brush these issues aside and say that this should not be the focus of the election…but since when is someone’s integrity not an issue for possible presidency?

The question is are these legitimate issues? Of course they are. These are people who want to have the highest offices in the land, everything about these people are legitimate issues. Their spending habits, personal family choices, and favorite foods are all as relevant as their stance on abortion, the economy, evolution and foreign policy.
These extraneous issues are even more important for Sarah Palin than possibly any other candidate in our history. She claims to be the quintessential middle class All-American mom. This would be a non-issue except she uses it as a qualification as to why she is qualified to speak for Joe the Plumber and his family. Of course the more we look at what she does and what she claims her credibility keeps slipping further and further away.
How many All-American middle class mothers do you know who have a staff of nannies? The last time Sarah Palin only had one nanny on her payroll was when she only had one child. She currently has 4 nannies and a private nurse for baby Trig. Why is this relevant? She tells us she knows what it is to be a mother. I am sorry, squeezing a kid out of you and then handing it off to someone else to do all the work doesn’t make you a parent. She probably loves her children, but so parents who molest their children most of the time, so that isn’t a good test either. Providing Trig with a private nurse and listening to her claim to know our pain while backing McCain’s health care plan is a joke.
Sarah Palin might show up a hockey games, take her kids out all dolled up for photo opportunities, and talk about being a middle class bake cookies with your girls kind of mom, but the facts say she is either delusional or a fraud. My guess is she is a delusional fraud, but either way when you look at all of the facts she is unfit to be the vice president, much less the president.

of Man Charged with Voter Registration FraudSACRAMENTO – The owner of a signature-gathering firm that works across California was arrested in Ontario today on suspicion of committing voter registration fraud, Secretary of State Debra Bowen announced.Mark Anthony Jacoby, who owns the firm known as Young Political Majors (YPM), was arrested after allegedly registering himself to vote, once in 2006 and again in 2007, at an address where did not live. An investigation by the Secretary of State’s Election Fraud Investigation Unit revealed that Jacoby twice registered to vote at the address of a childhood home in Los Angeles although he no longer lived there.
The Secretary of State’s fraud unit and the Ontario Police Department arrested Jacoby near an Ontario hotel just before midnight Saturday. An arraignment date has not been scheduled yet.
“Voter registration fraud is a serious issue, which is why I vigorously investigate all allegations of elections fraud,” said Secretary Bowen, California’s chief elections officer. “Where there’s a case to be made, I will forward it to law enforcement for criminal prosecution.”
For his business, Jacoby traveled California and a number of other states collecting petition signatures and registering voters. Under state law, signature-gatherers must sign a declaration stating that they are either registered to vote in California or that they are eligible to do so. Jacoby allegedly registered to vote at his childhood address to meet this legal requirement.
Under California law, it is a felony punishable by up to three years in prison to register yourself when you are not entitled to vote and it is perjury to provide false information on a voter registration card.
On October 3, the Public Integrity Unit of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office charged Jacoby with four felonies: two counts of voter registration fraud and two counts of perjury. A warrant was issued for his arrest and bail was set at $50,000.
“This arrest wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of the Ontario Police Department and Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley’s office,” Secretary Bowen said. “I thank them both.”
The Secretary of State’s Election Fraud Investigation Unit helps maintain the integrity of the electoral process by investigating allegations of election and voter fraud in California. Potential Elections Code violations brought to the unit’s attention are thoroughly investigated and referred to law enforcement officials for prosecution when there is sufficient evidence of wrongdoing. The Secretary of State’s office does not disclose information about the status of ongoing criminal investigations, but the information from a case that results in a criminal complaint filed by a county or state prosecutor is a public record.
